This bright yellow castle sits on a rise in the tourist town of Hohenschwangau.

It is surprisingly unassuming and one can imagine the young sons of King Maximilian II of Bavaria growing up in its large but modestly dressed interior.

Its bright exterior stands out against the snowy surrounds, yet it remains relatively unknown, overshadowed in reputation by the castle built further up the mountain by Maximilian’s son, Ludwig II. This is a whole other story…
