A crowd gathering in the pre-dawn darkness, before climbing the steep path in ritualistic silence.
The destination? An ancient temple-tomb.
Watching the sun rise – a practice akin to sitting in the stands at the Ekka.
Locals intermingled with tourists; coats, scarves and cameras at the ready.
A lone clarinet player, flanked by 2 friends, all wrapped in a single hospital blanket.

Headless stone gods proudly facing East, their heads propped up on the ground below.
Sun’s first rays causing the limestone faces to glow softly –  as it has for thousands of years.

Connection between past and present.
